As we sit here trying to unpick the blur from last weekend’s RAF Centenary celebrations, it becomes clear that a fun-packed and mesmerising day was had by all (LTT included) at the RAF Cosford Air Show.

What began as a steady trickle of eager visitors at the Whittle STEM Innovation Hub, meeting other STEM enthusiasts and museum staff, soon became a wave of guests, young and old, keen to explore the coding area of our stand. As the roar of the engines began to fill the hangar, the crowd continued to gather. After taking a moment to look around at the show’s exhibitors, it was clear that there was an overwhelming passion for STEM, enabling strong future for careers within the industry.

Throughout the day we were greeted with a wide range of participants willing to embrace technology and the coding challenges we had prepared. Starting from as young as aged 3 all the way up to some of the eldest visitors of the day.

It was a pleasure to witness the excitement of these learners as they spotted the opportunity to program a Red Arrows’ Lego EV3 plane across the MindStorm Mazes. Young people took the time to problem solve, showed real resilience with their coding and of course were keen to watch their accompanying adults become equally immersed (to the point at which a number of parents refused to leave until they had completed the challenge themselves).

It was our busiest year yet and was worth every minute. We look forward to collaborating with RAF Cosford in the future and hope you can join us next year.
